Transfer Decal Cut Option

Transfer Decal

Transfer Decal

Transfer cut option means that we will be cutting the vinyl decal material to a specified shape, graphic or text and then removing or “picking” any excess or unwanted vinyl material from your design leaving no vinyl background on your decal. We then place a transfer tape over the top of the remaining pieces of vinyl. This tape is what holds all the individual cut pieces of your decal design once you remove the paper backing from your decal. It also allows you to place multiple individual pieces of vinyl decal material on your desired surface cleanly and evenly.

* Vector File (EPS or Ai – Adobe Illustrator) format needed for Transfer Cut decals. *

Transfer Cut / Pick Charge

Transfer cut price includes 8 standard picks with a Maximum of 40 picks per sq. foot.

Additional picks are $0.02 to $0.04 per pick depending on difficulty/intricacy.

Intricately cut decals will be custom quoted based on difficulty and time required to pick.

Product Information

What is a transfer decal?

A transfer decal is a sticker consisting of multiple individually cut pieces of vinyl, leaving no vinyl background material. A layer of transfer tape is then placed over the top of your decal in order to hold it together when you transfer your decal to its desired surface, such as a window, laptop, water bottle, vehicle or piece of equipment.

All of our transfer decals consist of 3 layers of material.

  1. The first layer is the paper backing of the vinyl material.
  2. The second layer is the vinyl decal material itself
  3. The third layer is the transfer tape, this is placed over the top of your decal design.

This tape is what holds all the individual pieces of your decal design together once you remove the paper backing from your decal. It also allows you to place multiple individual pieces of vinyl decal material on your desired surface cleanly and evenly.

What is transfer tape?

Transfer tape, also referred to as transfer paper, application tape or “pre-mask” transfer tape is a paper or plastic film that is placed on the top of a vinyl sticker or decal material to hold all of the individual design pieces together in order to make it easier to apply your decal.  Once you apply your transfer decal to its desired surface, simply peel away the transfer tape to reveal your decal.

What material is used for your transfer decal?

We offer two vinyl material options for your transfer decals. Our standard vinyl material is made from a calendered vinyl material with an outdoor durability of 3 to 5 years when properly applied and maintained.

If you are looking for something more durable, we recommend our high-permormance vinyl material which is made from a cast vinyl material that has up to an 8 year outdoor durability lifespan when properly applied and maintained.

Can I use multiple colors, fonts and images in my design?

Yes! Because we digitally print our transfer decals in full color you will not be charged anything additional for multiple colors, fonts, or imagery.

The only time color will affect your price is if you request a color match proof. If you need a color match proof, please contact us to speak with one of our friendly customer service reps!

Do your transfer decals have a glossy or matte finish?

Our transfer come in both a gloss or matte finish.

How small or large can my transfer decal be?

Transfer decals have a minimum print width and height of 3” and have a max print width of 52" and a max print height of 120" anything larger than 52" wide will require your decal to be printed in panels.

Will my design impact the pricing of my transfer decal?

Colors, fonts, and images will not affect the pricing of your transfer decal. The only factors that will impact the price of your decal are the size and quantity you order and whether you request a color match proof. If you need a color match proof, please contact us to speak with one of our friendly customer service reps!

What is the lifespan of your transfer decals?

The lifespan of our standard vinyl material option is 3 to 5 year outdoor durability when properly applied and maintained.

The lifespan of our high-performance material option is up to 8 years when properly applied and maintained.

Common Uses

What are some common uses for transfer decals?

Transfer decals are commonly used to transfer lettering, logos or designs onto a desired surface. Most people use them to brand products, equipment, machinery, windows, doors, vehicles, and trailers. They are also commonly used by DIYer’s to add personal lettering or complex graphics to a multitude of projects and surfaces.

What surfaces can transfer decals be placed on?

Transfer decals adhere best when placed on smooth, non-porous surfaces such as glass, metal, plastic, smooth or painted drywall, and tile. We do not recommend placing these decals on brick, concrete, or any rough or porous surface as they will not properly adhere.

Are your transfer decals repositionable?

Our transfer decals are not repositionable. They are intended to remove cleanly from whatever surface you apply them too, however, because each letter or design is individually die-cut they can become very delicate in nature which can cause them to tear so we recommended these decals to be applied only once.

Will the transfer decals leave any sticky residue behind?

Depending on how long the transfer decal will be placed on its intended surface and what vinyl decal material you choose will determine if residue will be left behind.

If you are worried about residue we recommend our removable material. This material is intended to remove cleanly from its surface for up to 1 year after placement.

If you do remove a decal and it leaves behind residue, we recommend using warm soapy water or a light cleaning agent to help cut through any residual residue that was left behind. Try to avoid using any sharp objects or anything with a hard edge to remove your decals as this can scratch and damage the surface you are trying to clean.

How to Apply Vinyl Decals

Decals are a great way to add a unique touch to many spaces and surfaces. Whether you plan to display your new decal on your car, laptop, living-room wall, or anywhere else, proper installation is crucial for creating a strong bond that lasts long and looks great. That's why we've put together this guide that teaches you how to apply decals in just six easy steps.

Decal Application | Step 1

Step 1:

Tools Needed

Scissors Paper Towels
Masking Tape Tape Measure
Plastic Applicator Squeegee or Credit Card Warm Water or Other Common Household Cleaning Item
Decal Application | Step 2

Step 2:

Clean the Surface

The first order of business before you apply your decal is to make sure the surface is clean and dry. Any dirt, debris, or moisture can weaken the adhesion. Use warm water and soap, rubbing alcohol, or other common household items for a good clean. Be sure to wipe away any left-over cleaning product or residue with a dry cloth before moving on to the next step.

Decal Application | Step 3

Step 3:

Tape & Measure

Before you peel away the backing, tape your decal down on the surface where you intend to apply it. Measure and adjust to make sure it is centered and straight.

Decal Application | Step 4

Step 4:

Remove the Transfer Film from the Backing

Run a long piece of tape across the top of the decal to form a hinge. Slowly peel away the transfer film from the white backing.

With smaller decals, you can peel away the entire backing. For larger decals, it may be best to peel away the first portion and apply the decal to the surface as you peel away the rest of the backing.

Decal Application | Step 5

Step 5:

Apply the Decal to the Surface

While holding the bottom end of the decal away from the surface. At the top of the decal, apply pressure with a plastic applicator squeegee or credit card. Start from the center of the decal and, with a scraping-like motion, work your way outward left to right, working your way down the decal.

Decal Application | Step 6

Step 6:

Remove the Transfer Film

Once you've placed the decal, slowly remove the transfer film and press down any loose pieces and work out any air bubbles

Decal Application | Step 7

Step 7:

Enjoy!

Now you can remove the transfer film and enjoy your freshly placed decal.
