Die Cut Clear Labels VS. Kiss Cut Clear Labels

Our clear labels are available in two cut options; die-cut and kiss-cut. The main differences between these two cut options, comes down to the paper backing on each sticker.

Die-Cut Sticker

Die-Cut

Die-cut means that we are cutting through both the vinyl label material and the paper backing. This cut type doesn't leave any material around the label. Another way to look at it is to think of it like a "cookie cutter." Your decals are all individually cut out to the contour of your design, so you have individually cut clear label with no paper material around the design.

Kiss-Cut Sticker

Kiss-Cut

Kiss-cut means we are only cutting through the vinyl layer ("clear label material") and not cutting through the paper backing, leaving a material border around your clear label. When you choose a kiss-cut label, you will have extra material around your label for easy peeling.

Clear Window Label Artwork Specification

Preferred Files for Printing

Clear Label & Window Cling Guidelines

  • Vector artwork is required: EPS, AI, and PDF
  • Please indicate the cut line clearly for all decal products

When submitting these files, make sure you convert all fonts to outlines or curves to ensure they print correctly and the fonts are not substituted.

File Tips

  • Set up size proportionate to the exact size product you are ordering
  • Convert all text to outlines
  • Only Allow for bleed if necessary
  • Never flatten/merge layers in a PSD file
  • Indicate the cut line clearly for all decal products

Vector Art

Vector art consists of lines and curves that are mathematically defined objects. When viewing art in key line mode you can see the points or vectors when connecting your lines and curves. They can also be seen when using the pen tool or editing the points along a path. Vector art is ideal for type and drawn shapes because they can be enlarged to any size while maintaining crisp outlines and details without sacrificing quality. The distance between the vectors is calculated mathematically and is not dependent upon resolution.

Raster Art

Raster images consist of colored squares, called pixels. They are created by combining a series of various colored pixels. Digital photographs are made up of pixels. If you view a raster image at 200% or more you are able to see the individual pixels that make up the image. Raster images are dependent upon resolution so image enlargement is limited by the individual size at which the file was created. If a file is produced at a size that is larger than its resolution will allow, the quality will decrease. Printing a low resolution file will result in pixelation. Individual pixels are large enough to be easily discernable. Increasing the resolution will not solve this problem is there are not enough pixels to begin with. The program will add more pixels based upon the estimation of their location and will then assign their neighboring pixels's color value. This may cause an image to look muddy.

If submitting these files, please follow the guidelines below:

  • 100% scale (full size output) at 100 dpi
  • 50% scale at 200 dpi or higher
  • 25% scale at 300 dpi or higher
  • 10% scale at 600-1200 dpi recommended

Design Services

If you are not able to provide us with a print ready artwork, we do have a vectorizing/recreating service available. Most logos or images can be recreated for $70. Artwork design service discounts may apply.  Please contact a sales representative today for more details.

This service needs to be paid for in advance and we will be happy to give you a copy of the vector file once it is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions Return to Top

What is a clear label?

A clear label is a transparent vinyl label that can be applied on interior or exterior surfaces. Because it is printed on a clear vinyl material it will show clear on any area(s) your graphic isn’t showing.

What material is used for your clear labels?

We print our clear labels on a 4 mml transparent vinyl material designed for both interior and exterior applications. This unique material gives you the option to choose from  either a front adhesive or back adhesive, giving you more control over how you want to apply this label to your window or other intended surfaces.

How do I know where my label will be clear?

Your transparent label will show clear on any area(s) your graphic isn’t showing. So the portion of your graphic that will remain clear largely depends on what you are printing. If you are designing a clear label with our online designer, then it is important to let us know specifically where you want your label to appear transparent in the order notes.

If you are uploading your own design, then we recommend either an ai, eps, or pdf file format for this particular product. We also recommend that you leave instructions in your order notes as this can help clear up any confusion for our graphic designers when processing your orders.  As with all our products, your order will not be processed until you have approved your artwork and paid for your product.

*PLEASE NOTE*

Your order will not go into production until you approve your free artwork proof and have paid for your clear decals. If you select ‘Approved as shown, please send to production’ and proceed to pay for your order, we will assume everything on your order is correct and decals.com will not assume responsibility for any printing errors in regards to artwork. For more information on our production and returns policy, please visit our policies page.

Common Uses

What are some common uses for clear labels?

Clear labels are commonly used to label products, equipment, machinery, windows, doors, vehicles, and trailers. DIYs commonly use clear labels for unnumbered amounts of home projects, like canning and seasonal decorating as well.

What surfaces can clear labels be placed on?

Clear labels adhere best when placed on smooth, non-porous surfaces such as glass, metal, plastic, smooth or painted drywall, and tile. We do not recommend placing these labels on brick, concrete, or any rough or porous surface as they will not properly adhere.

Are your custom clear labels repositionable?

No. Our clear labels are meant as a permanent option. We do not recommend moving your transparent label once it has been placed.

If you are looking for a removable clear label solution, then we suggest trying one of our clear window cling products.  Window clings use low tack adhesive allowing you to apply and reposition them several times.

How to Apply Clear Labels

Clear Labels are a great way to add a unique touch to many spaces. Whether you plan to display your new clear label on the front of your business, inside your business, your house, or anywhere else, proper installation is crucial for creating a strong bond that lasts long and looks great. That's why we've put together this guide that teaches you how to apply clear labels in just five easy steps.

Decal Application | Step 1

Step 1:

Tools Needed

Clear Decal Paper Towels
Plastic Applicator Squeegee or Credit Card Warm Water or Other Common Household Cleaning Item
Decal Application | Step 2

Step 2:

Clean the Surface

The first order of business before you apply your clear label is to make sure the surface is clean and dry. Any dirt or debris can weaken the adhesion. Use warm water and soap, rubbing alcohol, or other common household items for a good clean. Be sure to wipe away any left-over cleaning product or residue with a dry cloth before moving on to the next step.

Decal Application | Step 3

Step 3:

Applying the Clear Label

Before you peel away the backing, spray the surface with a light soapy water or glass cleaner. Then peel away the backing and apply the clear label to the wet surface.

Decal Application | Step 4

Step 4:

Squeegee out Liquid

Gently take a rubber squeegee or a credit card and remove the liquid. Start in the middle of the clear label and slowly work the liquid out from behind the label.

Decal Application | Step 5

Step 5:

Enjoy!

Wipe away the liquid around the clear label so that your surface is dry. Be sure that your clear label is slid straight and set how you prefer. Enjoy your brand new clear label!
