Not every product needs the same decal construction. Standard vinyl works fine for indoor packaging, retail displays, or short-run promotional items that will not face sun, moisture, or abrasion. Once a product leaves a climate-controlled warehouse, though, material choice matters a lot more.
High performance cast vinyl with lamination is built for outdoor equipment, tools, and vehicle panels that get washed, scraped, or left in direct sun for years. 3M Control Tac with lamination is designed to stretch and conform over curves, rivets, and textured housings, which makes it a common choice for tanks, machinery covers, and molded plastic parts.
Reflective vinyl adds visibility in low light, useful for branding on safety equipment, trailers, or job site gear.
Clear decals skip the white or colored background entirely, letting branding sit directly on glass, tinted plastic, or product windows without a visible box around the logo.
For branding made up of separate letters, numbers, or design elements,
transfer-cut decals use masking or transfer tape to hold the individual pieces in position during application. Once the decal is applied, the masking is removed, leaving the individual vinyl elements properly aligned on the product surface. Other decal formats, such as die-cut decals, are typically applied as a single piece and do not require transfer tape. For more help comparing materials and finishes for your application, see our
